Will be a good solution when your file is missing somewhere in your disk. WordHunter finds a specified text string searching every file under selected target folder (directory) and lists up all the files containing the string. Either data fork or resource fork can be a target and this is your choice. From OS8.5 Sherlock does this, but you have to make an index file first, which will take a long time and lots of space. WordHunter does not require any preparation, and is easy and pretty fast.
[How to use]
Just drag and drop the folder you wish to look through onto the application icon or select by "Directory to Search..." in File menu. Enter a keyword string to search, then click "Set" button. Clicking "Search" button starts searching. At the top of the window, the path to the folder (delimited by colon) you selected and the keyword are displayed.
If files containing the keyword are found, file names will be listed in the lower part of the search window. The number enclosed by parentheses [] indicates the position where the keyword appears in a file. It is expressed by byte counts from the beginning of the file. Part of the text including the keyword is shown in the next parentheses.
For example: Search by a keyword "letter" with setting "Ignore Case" on.

Here,
In the file named: "MyDocs",
The keyword appears at the [nnnn]th byte counted from the beginning (start from 0),
In the sentence: [...Letter...]
For resolving ambiguity, ? is allowed to replace unknown character.
e.g., "a?t" for art, act, apt, ant, aut[o], aut[umn]...
The program searches any kind of files (you can avoid applications by checking the check box) and the contents are shown in a tab-delimited text format. Sometimes, lots of weird characters could be displayed. They are mostly special codes besides text which is used for a unique format of each application.
The file list can be saved or printed.
To find files listed in the window, double-click the list or select the list and "Open Folder" in File Menu. Then, the folder containing the file will be opened up.
